The Emmaus Police Department (EPD) is an accredited agency under the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC). The Emmaus Police Department is part of the Lehigh County Chiefs of Police Association Consortium which regularly announces open application periods for written and physical agility tests for multiple departments in Lehigh County.

EPD has established clear requirements for applicants to ensure that those who join our ranks reflect the values and professionalism our community expects. In addition, the Borough of Emmaus has amended Ordinance No. 1-353 with Ordinance No. 1279, which outlines automatic disqualifications for initial employment as a police officer. These measures help maintain the integrity and trustworthiness of our department.

Emmaus Borough Minimum Requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by date of hire
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Possess a Pennsylvania Driver’s License prior to appointment
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Be physically & mentally fit to perform duties of a Police Officer
  • Speak, read and write the English language
  • Be of good moral character
  • Reside within 20 air miles of Borough Hall within a year of swearing in
  • Never been convicted of a felony
  • Never defaulted on a student loan (insured by the U.S. Government)
  • Never failed an department-administered urinalysis drug test
  • Have registered with the Selective Service System (for males only)
  • No failures of a departmental administered psychological examination
  • No illegal distribution of drugs, prescription or otherwise
